Abby's Cookie

We just got some cookies from the Petersen’s, our wonderful neighbors from across the street. Melinda put a cookie on the table between Abby and me. I thought it was for me, so I ate it. Come to find out that the cookie was for Abby because it was the one that didn’t have any frosting. We got you another cookie with frosting (which we assumed that you would like better anyway). However, you did not want to get any frosting on your fingers. I tried to feed the cookies to you, but you wanted to do it yourself. I tried to help you pick it up but we were not very successful. If you got any frosting on your fingers, you had to set the cookie down and have me lick it off. Your mommy just ended up getting you a fork so that you could eat without getting your fingers dirty.

You know how to put your shoes on by yourself (though you usually put them on the wrong feet.)

Just about Alex Shane

I need to write just about Alex Shane. It was just a couple of days ago that we had you trying out your new tennis shoes. Shoes make you look so much older. You went from being a baby to being a little boy. Mommy had you downstairs in the basement while I was working in my office. She was helping you stand up and take steps as she held your hands. We think that you are going to be an early walker. You like to stand up next to the couch or next to a chair. When you were downstairs with your mom you were taking steps along with the fire engine bike and between the table and the bike; there were a couple of times that you were standing up all by yourself. Your mommy wanted to cry.

You are a fun little boy. Sometimes you are very serious, just look at us, and will not give us a smile for anything. At other times, you are just full of laughs, smiles, and screams. Usually you will be sitting in your high chair, eating some cereal or some oatmeal. When you see me come in you throw up your arms and scream. You have the most adorable smile (even though you do not have any teeth yet). Your eyes are bright and your cheeks are so kissable. You really do scream a lot, but it’s the cute, I’m excited, life is wonderful kind of scream that makes us all smile and laugh. It is fun to play peek-a-boo with you. When I’m hiding your face is so serious and solemn. Then as soon as I pop out your smiles pops out as well and so do your screams of delight.

You like to wrestle. You usually try to grab my nose, or my cheeks. If you can you try and eat my nose or my chin. You laugh a lot when I pin you down and tickly you with my chin.

The First Day You...

Well, Abby Jane today was the first day that you put your shoes on all by yourself. We were getting ready for church. Mom had already put your dress and tights on and then had left to go and finish getting ready. You found your tan shoes, put them on and then came walking out. The problem was they were on the wrong feet and they did not match your red dress. I was still amazed that you are old enough and smart enough to go through the process of finding your shoes and putting them on. It is even cool that you knew you needed to put your shoes on. Your mother and I think that you are very smart. We are amazed at how quickly you pick up on things.

At church today, you were looking through a Pinocchio book. In the front they had different pictures of Pinocchio. You pointed to his nose in each one and did your best to say nose. You mom has done a good job teaching you different body parts. You know all the parts on your face as well as your hands, fingers and toes. I was amazed to realize that you were able to recognize that a cartoon drawing was of a person and that the oval shape on his face was his nose. I was in a zone thinking about how the brain learns and develops and how advanced we as humans are to understand at such a young age something symbolic as a cartoon.

You are starting to try to repeat what we say more often. I already think you voice is cute and I am sure it will just be adorable when you start to talk. You are such a little angel. You are very good about saying prayers with us. We usually say, “Let’s say a prayer” or “Fold your arms” and you usually do it right away, even if we already set your food down and you are ready to eat. It is so cute to see you fold you arms and kneel down.
